Grants

The Spirit of St. Louis Women's Fund (SOS) has been formed to provide grants to charitable organizations - applicants must be 501(c)3 organizations operating within the St. Louis Standard Metropolitan Statistical area that provide services within the City and County of St. Louis.

Grants are not restricted in any fashion to issues dealing with women, but are made to organizations focusing on at least one of the following areas:

  • arts and culture
  • education
  • the environment
  • health
  • social services

Grants are awarded based on a vote of the SOS's membership after prospective grant recipients have successfully completed each step of the SOS's grant process

What SOS does not fund

Organizations receiving SOS grants for 2 consecutive years must wait one year before applying for additional grant money.

Generally, SOS does not make grants for:

  • Major building/capital campaigns, although program specific capital requests may receive grants
  • Conferences or benefits
  • Individuals, for any purpose
  • Scholarships for a named individual, although scholarship funds may receive grants
  • Endowments
  • For-profit organizations
  • Organizations not operating within the Greater St. Louis Community
  • Projects that promote religious or political doctrine
  • Research (medical or otherwise)
  • Operating deficits/retirement of existing debt
